What this site stores, why, and above all everything it does not do.
In short: a single cookie, for audience measurement, and only with your consent; no advertising, no third-party services. Nothing you do here is passed on to a third party. The site counts its page views on its own server, without ever storing your IP address. Your display settings stay in your browser, on your device.
The site sets a single cookie, and only if you accept it: a randomly drawn identifier, used to tell whether you come back from one day to the next, described below. Technically it is kept in your browser's storage rather than in a cookie, but the law treats it as a cookie, hence the question asked when you arrive. You can decline it without losing anything.
The site uses your browser's local storage, an area private to your device, to remember your display preferences. That information never leaves your device: it is not sent to the server, nor to anyone else. One exception: the measurement identifier, if you have accepted it.

vf-visit | The day of your last visit to the home page, so you are greeted once a day and not on every click. |
vf-profile | The diet you chose: all, pescatarian or vegetarian. |
vf-welcome-seen | Records that the welcome question was asked, so it is not asked again. |
vf-intro, vf-index-seen, vf-compare-intro, vf-compare-intro-seen | The introduction of the home page and of the comparator, expanded or folded on a phone, and whether you have already seen the page. |
vf-home-compare | The home page's “Tools” section, unfolded or folded. |
vf-home-mode | On the home page's card, the choice between comparing and calculating. |

None of these values identifies you, and none contains personal data. You can erase them at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings: the site will work exactly the same, with its default settings.
The fonts and display libraries the site uses are hosted here, not loaded from Google Fonts or a content delivery network. That is a deliberate choice: calls of that kind pass the visitor's IP address to a third party, on every page viewed, without their knowing. No page on this site does it.
Links to outside sites, such as Open Food Facts, the CIQUAL table or scientific publications, are only followed if you click them. Those sites then have their own privacy policy.
The site counts its page views, on its own server and without cookies: the page viewed, the day, the language, the type of device (phone, tablet, computer), the site you came from if any, the country you connect from, and the city in France or the state or province in the United States and Canada. Your IP address is never stored: at the time of the visit, it is only used to look up that place, nothing more precise, and to compute a fingerprint, mixed with a key that changes every day, to count the visitors of a single day without any way of linking two days together. This data is passed on to no one, uses neither Google Analytics nor any outside service, and is deleted after 25 months.
If you accept, in the cookie box or in Preferences, a randomly drawn identifier is also kept in your browser and sent with each page view, to tell whether you come back from one day to the next. It contains nothing about you. Your consent lasts 13 months, then the question comes back; you can withdraw it at any time in Preferences, which deletes the identifier.
Since the site collects no personal data, there is no record about you and no processing on which to exercise a right of access, correction or erasure. Because what the site stores sits on your device, you keep full control of it.
