⚠️ Where the calories come from: for alcoholic drinks, most of the calories come from the alcohol itself (7 kcal/g), not from the carbs shown. A spirit has 0g of carbs and is still very caloric. Carbs matter mainly for sodas, beers and sweet wines.

πŸš— Behind the wheel: the limit is 0.08% blood alcohol across the United States, 0.05% in Utah, and zero tolerance under 21, where one drink is already too many. A standard drink raises blood alcohol by roughly 0.02 to 0.03% in an average adult, but what you actually reach depends on weight, sex, whether you have eaten and how long ago you drank: no number of drinks guarantees staying under the limit.

πŸ₯ƒ Standard drink: 25cl of beer, 12cl of wine, 3cl of spirits all hold about the same dose of pure alcohol, roughly 10g in France and 14g in the United States: that is one standard drink, and it is what the tick on the green gauge marks. ABV, by contrast, describes the drink and not the glass: our drinks run from 9.0 to 12.8g of alcohol per glass while their ABVs run from 5 to 45. These are the volumes commonly poured, not a drinking recommendation.
